Oil Change Maintenance

Newer Ford Explorer models come with the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor System. This appears as a message in your information display at every programmed oil change interval. As soon as the oil change message appears in the information display, bring your Ford Explorer in for service. 

Ford recommends oil changes for older Ford Explorer models at every 10,000 mile interval or once a year, roughly. It's important to remember that within two weeks (or 500 miles) of the appearance of an oil change message, you need to perform an oil change. 

When you head to our Springfield Ford service center the following services should also be performed:

• Interior and exterior light check
• Tire wear and tire pressure check
• Windshield washer fluid level check

Biannual Service Checks

For basic optimal vehicular performance, the following Ford Explorer checks and cleanings should be scheduled every six months:

• Battery connection cleaning
• Body and door drain cleaning
• Cooling system fluid level check
• Coolant system strength check
• Hinge, latch, and outside lock lubrication check
• Parking brake check

In addition to the above, the following Ford 1-150 features should be scheduled for service every six months:

• Seatbelt and seat latch operation, wear, and function check
• Safety warning lamp operation check
• Brake, ABS, and airbag operation check
• Washer spray and wiper operation check, cleaning, and blade replacement
• Engine air filter check
• Exhaust system check
• Tires, including wear and pressure checks
